Should You Buy A Flagship Smartphone?

There has always been a constant debate over going for a flagship smartphone or a regular mid range phone. To answer this question. We need to analyze how the features or specifications justify being flagship or not:

Operating system

Flagship smartphones tend to have a more recent OS, and they are updated more often. In addition, the support of such devices by the manufacturer obviously lasts longer than state employees.

All flagship smartphones are equipped with Amoled displays, which many owners of budget devices consider “bad”. Arguments: yes, your colors are somehow poisonous, they give off acid, but on my IPS there are no such problems. However, they do not understand the reasons why this is happening. 

IPS displays are perfect for displaying images in the browser, Youtube videos – all this content uses not so many shades of colors. The color gamut of Amoled displays is much wider and this moment just leads to oversaturated colors on the display. However, when you’re watching a video using the DCI-P3 color gamut, that’s when an Amoled display is needed. Here, the maximum brightness in certain areas of the display already plays a role, and the rest of the screen, on the contrary, is slightly muted. The picture looks completely different than on IPS matrices.

Performance and speed

Flagship smartphones are significantly more productive than their cheaper counterparts. They have 5G support, processors are more energy efficient and support high resolution cameras. A more powerful processor is not just more points in the benchmark, it is also involved in photo processing and video shooting. Their quality also depends on the processor. Many people notice a difference in the quality of photos taken on the same Samsung smartphone with an Exynos and Qualcomm processor, although the software and optics do not differ.

Speakers and sound

Flagship devices are equipped with stereo speakers, besides, they produce much better sound compared to even the average ones. Even by the sound it is easy to determine whether your smartphone is expensive, many manufacturers often save on it.

There is no squeak with raised high frequencies and wheezing at maximum volume, there is a certain volume in the sound and melodiousness. With such speakers it is more pleasant to watch a movie on the road and watch a music video on YouTube. Acoustic capabilities also play an important role in games.

Communication and connection

All smartphones have Wifi, Bluetooth, GSM LTE modules. Oddly enough, but in the flagships they work faster, more stable and provide more options for users. The Bluetooth version differs in comparison with budget devices: v 5.2 versus 4.2, for example, in other smartphones. This is 4 times the range, which means that with an expensive gadget it is more difficult to lose connection with a Bluetooth speaker or other Bluetooth devices.

Case, design and other differences

In expensive smartphones, “noble” case materials are used: metal and glass. In state employees – plastic, and not of the best quality, as a rule. The build quality is also different, you will not notice any backlashes and squeaks when pressed in flagship devices. The buttons do not wobble and have a clear stroke. The width of the frames on the sides of the display is very different, which means there is more usable area on the front panel in the flagships.
