Prostate Cancer Awareness Month / September 2018:

The Prostate Specific Antigen (PSA) test is one of several important tools doctors use to detect prostate cancer. The PSA test measures a protein produced by cells in your prostate. High levels may be an indication that something abnormal is going on with your prostate. Doctors also perform Digital Rectal Exams (DRE). During a DRE, a doctor inserts a lubricated gloved finger into your anus and explores your prostate for abnormalities. Both tests are fast and non-invasive, but they provide information to help you stay informed about your health and well being.

Urology specialists provide a complete range of services, including male and female urinary tract disorders and inflammatory diseases. We treat kidney stones, provide cancer treatment, perform vasectomies, and more. The best way to stay ahead of health concerns is by visiting your doctor regularly. Get Checked! Learn About PSA Testing and Digital Rectal Exam: Your doc will perform an exam to check your prostate gland—commonly called a digital rectal exam (DRE). During a DRE, he inserts a lubricated finger into your rectum to feel for any abnormalities in your prostate. A blood test known as PSA (for Prostate Specific Antigen) can also be used to screen for prostate cancer—by measuring levels of PSA in your blood. Have you been screened?
