What is the Cost and How We can Repair the sidewalk?
Cost of Repairs
The cost of repairs for any given area of concrete may vary based on several factors. However, the two major factors that determine the cost of repairing concrete are (a) the amount of concrete that needs to be replaced; and (b) the condition of the existing concrete. If the existing concrete is sound, then it should not require much work at all. On the other hand, if the existing concrete is severely damaged, then it requires a lot of labor, time, and materials to make the necessary repairs. In either case, the cost of repairs will depend upon the quality of the concrete being repaired.
Determine the Area That Needs Repairing
To calculate how much concrete needs replacing, multiply the length of the affected area by the height of the slab. Then divide the result by the thickness of the concrete. Finally, add the total number of square feet to the resulting figure. For example, if the length of the damaged area is 10 ft., the height of the slab is 8 inches, and the thickness of the concrete is 4 inches, the calculation would be:
10 x 0.8 8 sqft.
8 x 4 32 sqft.
32 + 1 33 sqft.
33 sqft. / 300 .001155 sqft per square foot.
Thus, approximately 11.55 square feet of concrete will need to be replaced.
Calculate the Cost
With the information above, determining the actual cost of repairs will be simple since the calculations were already done for you. To get an idea of what the costs might be, ask the contractor who will do the repairs to provide you with a price quote. You can find many estimates online using a search engine.
How We Can Repair the Concrete?
There are three basic methods of repairing concrete: patching, resurfacing, and replacement. Each method has its own advantages and disadvantages. Let’s examine each of these methods and discuss their advantages and disadvantages.
Patch: A patch job involves filling cracks and holes in concrete with special cement-based grout, called patching mortar. The patching material is applied directly over the old concrete and allowed to dry before additional layers are added. Patching does have some advantages: it is relatively inexpensive, it can be performed by anyone, and it is quick. However, patches cannot be removed without removing the entire surface layer of concrete. Because they don’t last long, they can only be used once to cover small sections of concrete.
